Review: 6x18 Knockout
Bleh. I didn't care for it at all. I feel nothing about Vance, boxing is boring, and the main cast was either not there or acting mostly OOC.
First off Tony, because I love Tony. Except not like this. Not spilling his guts to some total stranger who just happens to know and understand exactly what's going on (even when we the viewers really don't, because if they're doing Tony/Ziva in a few episodes from now, then how can he still be so deeply in love with Jeanne?). On top of that, he babbles away in a way that should've made Gibbs do more than just slap him over the head - that rambling was boring and like Gibbs said - "Snap out of it!" Tony didn't have a single thing to do in the episode that actually had to do with the case.
Then there's Ziva, who's only around to interrupt/come into the scenes at pointed places when Tony has had a discussion about her (though never saying her name, of course). She has become a character who's only there to be the "secret" love interest. Ugh. I like Ziva. They're making me not like her. Make them stop!
I don't get why they have to hit us so repeatedly over the head with the Tony/Ziva thing. Well, to be honest I don't get why we have to have the Tony/Ziva thing at all, because I just don't see it. I see Ziva being a bit interested in Tony, yes, but Tony hasn't shown any kind of interest in her. Is he going to go all suddenly jealous when her long distance boyfriend comes into the picture? Are we going to be forced to watch a "I don't know why I'm so jealous, I don't like her!" kind of deal, where he finally gives up and admits that oh yes, he loves her so much... bleh. These big storylines never work out well for NCIS.
As for McGee, he was barely there. He flashed by in a couple of scenes but he really had nothing to do in this episode.
Gibbs was... meeh. He was running after Vance, doing his will-he-or-won't-he with the file. Just open it already. Didn't we already do the whole Director-with-a-past thing? Why do they all have to have the Big Secret Secret-y Past?
Abby was pretty okay. She wasn't over the top, and the scene with her and Jimmy was kinda cute, especially the part with 'Now I have to build a freakin coffin'. She's a bit too much for me still, at least in the scene with Vance and Gibbs, but the sign language was cute.
I kind of liked the wife, except for the story. She seems to rule her husband very well. The story itself felt a bit off, because do people really tell that kind of story to what has to constitute as a total stranger? And why do we as viewer really care? It was too long and felt like a filler. I liked the kids, especially with their eyerolls.
The music of the episode was godawful. I think there were two or three scenes in which the music was loud/thick enough for me to actively think about 'wow, they're doing a lot of music this time'. That's bad for me, because music is supposed to heighten the mood, not smother it. It was in the beginning somewhere, and then when Vance was doing his speech at the end, and I think there was some other scene too.
Ugh, I feel so negative, but this episode really didn't do much for me.
Two points when I lol'ed:
1) Palmer's line about birds not having shot the victim or whatever it was he said. High on the funny.
2) When Tony asked the hooker/whatever what she does for Banks and she said he knows, but he said she has to go into more details and so she told him she does for Banks what he does for his boss: anything he asks. ...because there was some serious slash potential to it ^^

First exchange:
Gibbs: Complete a background check.
Abby: For you, anything.
Second Exchange, she hands over the folder:
Gibbs: Thank you.
Abby: Never happened.
