It's almost a tie with this week's NCIS, which is impressive, considering the godlike-status I gave NCIS last week, and the general awfulness that has been Bones this season.
Bones
This week, there were certainly things that annoyed me - to start with, we got a scene in Sweets' office that gave absolutely nothing. They just sat around and waited. Is this supposed to show that B&B don't really like their sessions with Sweets? How about they just quit it instead, then? As
dresden_doll_01 pointed out - didn't they quit in the season three finale? And conclude that it wasn't necessary anymore?
Booth was ignorant throughout. Quite expected, it seems rather in character these days. Him gambling with Sweets had me going *headdesk*. I had forgotten about the gambling problem, but just the fact that Sweets is gambling with a client - ugh, so wrong. And then I came here and was reminded of Booth's gambling problem, and it was even worse.
I adored the guy who played the victim's son. He was so cute ^^ And he played his part very well, both in the old video sequence, and in interrogation. I actually cared a bit about him, which hasn't happened with anyone else this season.
Angela and Jack - much better this week than last. Their uncomfortableness around each other seemed real - Jack moved away when Angela came over, and that was just a little thing that made it feel real.
The intern had me annoyed at some points, but for the most part, I actually liked him. I didn't get what Brennan had against him. Sure, the general sprouting of odd information got old pretty fast, but he wasn't unlikeable.
Brennan's comment about aiming Booth in the right direction felt like something thrown in by the writers, because they've read our comments about her not being in the lab anymore. She used to be able to do both - but then, I guess Booth's IQ has dropped about thirty points, and as such, he needs constant supervision and handholding. /snark. Also, Brennan's inability to stay quiet during the moment of silence was simply rude. Even she, with her lack in social skills, should be able to understand that - or at least respect that others will appreciate a moment of silence.
Cam is still fantastic. I like her a bit more with each passing episode. However, the hippie-comment in the beginning had me going "huh", because I did not view those guys as hippies.
Over all, better episode than I would have expected, but still a long ways to go before it rates as fantastic...
NCIS
Where is the heart? Where is the fantastic, wonderful heart of the show that was so prominent throughout last week's episode? This episode was 'meeh' at best.
First off, Abby. I've been watching the first season on DVD the last few days, and she is different now than she was back then. Even her voice is different - she used this really low voice in season one, and now she's just hyper and whinyish. The deal with the cupcake? I'm sorry, I didn't find it amusing, or entertaining, or cute. I have no idea what the purpose was. Abby seemed borderline crazy to me, rather than cute.
Tim falling into the water was a cheap shot. It was so expected, and I wished they wouldn't have. We get it, Tim's the butt of everyone's jokes (no pun intended, even though he did find the gun with that part of his anatomy). He steals cupcakes because he's hungry, he falls into sewer water (I think that's what it was, right?), and so on. It's getting old.
Tony didn't show any of the giddiness about being back that I'd expected. Suddenly, it's like he hasn't been away at all. It struck me as odd.
Gibbs getting another very personal case? Haven't we done that a few times already? Right now, I'm just thinking Requiem, but I think there have been more. His friend was boring. The case was extremely boring. If the couple had been introduced as friends of Gibbs' earlier, it might have worked better, but as it was, I felt nothing for either of them.
Ziva didn't get much screentime, but I did like the first scene where Tony wanted to know about her sleepover at Abby's. Rather cute. But it still didn't feel quite right.
All in all, a boring case, dull developments, expected jokes, and a pretty bad episode, especially in the light of the last episode.
