Just watched a bit of Buffy - started out earlier today with "The killer in me" and "Lies my parents told me" because I wanted a Spike fix... god, James Marsters is so lovely. Continued with the episodes following "Lies my parents told me" - "Dirty girls" and "Empty places".
"Dirty Girls" is the episode where Faith/Eliza Dushko returns. It's a good enough episode (though I'll forever hate everything to do with Caleb - he's self-obsessed and boring, and holds my interest about as much as the character of Paul in "Dollhouse" - that is, not at all). One scene in particular stood out as extremely lovely. It's a Spike/Faith scene where Faith hides out in the basement to avoid the masses of girls upstairs, and Spike is there because he lives in the basement.
Among other things, the two reminisce about past events. It's done in a beautiful way. They have great chemistry, really. (And now I'm reading online that that scene was to "test" the two to see if they had enough chemistry together for their own spin-off - I'd have liked to see such a spin-off ^^). They're just both very cool characters. I gotta get myself a Spike-icon.
FAITH: Just don't forget who's on top.
SPIKE: That, I suspect, would be you.
FAITH: (grins) You got that right. (walks over to Spike's cot, sits beside him) I've met you before, you know.
SPIKE: Yeah, you made a great impression on my chin.
FAITH: Not in the graveyard. Before that. I was kinda wearing a different body.
SPIKE: Pity.
FAITH: You seemed OK with it.
SPIKE: The body swap. (nods) With Buffy.
FAITH: She fill you in on that whole deal?
SPIKE: She told me it went down. Failed to mention who was driving her skin around.
FAITH: I may have said a few things...
SPIKE: (looks into Faith's eyes) Like you could ride me at a gallop 'til my knees buckle, squeeze me 'til I pop like warm champagne. That's not the kind of thing a man forgets.
FAITH: Should've known it wasn't blondie behind the wheel. She'd never throw down like that.
SPIKE: Oh, you have been away. (Spike chuckles)
...my god, when Spike repeats what Faith said back in season four to him... *fans self* He's drool-worthy for sure. How on earth does anyone resist? ^^
On a sidenote, I have to say that Eliza Dushko has lost quite a bit of weight since those eps of Buffy. She's much thinner on Dollhouse. She looks beautiful and kick-ass either way.

DOLLHOUSE (spoilers for 1x11 "Briar Rose")
I have to agree with the general consensus that this episode was fantastic. It comes together so nicely, in a very Whedon-esque way. The big reveal of Alpha was brilliant - it caught me completely off guard, because I've been staying off spoilers (and I haven't watched Firefly, so I didn't recognize the actor). The actor was great in both the role as sociopaht Alpha, and the scared-of-everything dude before that ^^
As stated above, Paul still bores me. He has the combo of being boring, annoying and creepy all wrapped into one, and that doesn't make for a character I'm thrilled to watch. Several have commented on his morality - saving the princess (Echo/Caroline) but leaving the others, most notably November/Mellie, behind - but I find it still to be a boring storyline. I've found him creepy and boring from the start, and it hasn't changed.
Victor on the other hand, has gone from a character I winced while watching (back when he was the Russian or whatever) to a completely fantastic character. The actor is fantastic, especially after watching him do Dominic in "Briar Rose".
Sierra is mostly sent out elsewhere to do stuff, so I don't really know what to think of her. But she's been kicking some ass, so that's nice. I also switch back and forth between thinking that the acress is really pretty, to thinking that she's ridiculously thin and looks very, very strange.
Love Topher and the way he was proud of what he was doing with the girl and Echo was cute... though there were plot holes - how did they get the imprint from the girl to make Echo? Who was paying? How did they get in touch with her to start with? Maybe we'll get answers, but seeing how next week's episode is the season finale, and unfortunately quite possibly the series finale, I doubt it.
Much of the discussions are about the morals of the Dollhouse, but it's nearing midnight and I really don't feel like writing an essay about it. But it's interesting, that's for sure :)
Oh, but I have to say... does Joss Whedon have to cast the same people in every show he does? Are there really so few good actors in the US of A that he has to pick the same ones? (And I can't say that Amy Acker is such a great actress - so far, she seems to be pretty much playing Fred).

Date: 2009-05-04 09:40 pm (UTC)I've been watching the last three episodes of Buffy tonight - the speech he gives to Buffy (the "You're a hell of a woman"-speech) is just... love. So much love. ^^

Date: 2009-05-04 10:17 pm (UTC)I don't know how anyone could resist! Do you have a favourite ship for BtVS?
(no subject)
Date: 2009-05-05 07:43 am (UTC)Buffy/Spike has always been my main ship. However, I've been re-watching parts of the series, and there are points where I just have absolutely no understanding of what Spike sees in her, because she's a complete bitch. There are definitely times when I ship Spike/Willow, because they have nice chemsitry.
Buffy is one of the few fandoms where I don't slash, but that's mostly because there are no male characters between whom I see all that great chemistry. I find Angel to be extremely boring, and Xander is sweet and cool, but to my mind the "best friend" rather than boyfriend to anyone, boy or girl.
How about you?
